The interior of the house is rather dark except for the altar which is lit by candles. In the apse, they placed a statue of the Virgin Mary 100 years ago. There were apparently a kitchen and a bedroom here at one time; a nun appeared from the exit to make sure we were being orderly and respectful. Near the house is a fountain whose water is believed to have miraculous powers. As you make your way out, there is a wall which is covered in cloth knots, and is a wishing wall.
This house is apparently a center of pilgrimage for Christians and Muslims, the latter believing that she was a saint. There are also claims that she was buried here at 63 years of age but these claims have been disputed by Christians who say she was buried in Jerusalem on Mount Zion. Regardless, this place is a must visit for all.
