Description: We stopped at the Kendall-Jackson Winery in Fulton on our drive up to Windsor. Kendall Jackson is one of the larger wineries in the area, and it has a lot to offer, even if like me, you aren’t much of a wine connoisseur. The tasting room has three different options: A vinter’s reserve for $2 (choose 5 wines from a list of 10), an estates tasting for $10, and a food-wine pairing for $18. The day we visited, they also had an additional wine and chocolate truffle to end the tasting. We had a coupon for free vinter's reserve tastings printed from their website: http://www.kj.com/visit/KJWebCoupon.pdf
I ended up choosing the whites and my fiancé chose the reds, so we each got to try 11 wines and a chocolate truffle for, the can't beat price of, free. One of the white wines had a pleasant buttery popcorn flavor, and we had a nice discussion with one of the staff about the flavors of wine. The wine tasting was just the start of our afternoon here. Just outside the tasting room are several well organized educational gardens that are meant to enhance your wine-tasting experience. For example, one garden is separated into the different flavors that different kinds of wine are supposed to evoke (although we didn’t find any buttered popcorn here). Next to this garden is one separated into different fruits and vegetables that go well with different varieties of wine. We just strolled through these gardens on our own, but one of the staff will give you a brief tour if you prefer.
