This museum is, as the title suggests, dedicated to the city of Lisbon. The building is remarkable itself - a former palace has been pressed into service and is spectacularly beautiful. It appears, fortunately, not to have been too badly damaged in the 1755 earthquake that destroyed so much of Lisbon and the rest of Portugal.
The best thing to see in this museum is the room containing models of the city at different stages of the city's history. They are large, and show clearly both the great changes, and the settled layout over the centuries. Buildings change faster than street here! The biggest difference is obviously the before and after earthquake models of the city, and the comparison is fascinating, and can take up a great deal of your time if you allow it to!
