Blenheim Palace

Absolutely Fabulous! Seriously, while this may seem like a museum, this is a house for the Duke of Marlborough! Meaning that someone actually lives here!! I was unable to tour the house inside, but my mother, 15 years prior to my visit, was able to get a peak and said that it was AMAZING. The palace exhibits a mass amount of history.

While I was there, I was able to tour the grounds, and for some unknown reason, there were people dress in period costumes and an all-black carriage with black horses. I am unsure if this is a regular occurrence or there was a special event, but it was cool to feel like I stepped right into a time warp.

Cost per person:
Adult - £13
Senior Citizens and Students - £10.50
Child (5 to 16 years included) - £7.50
Family (two adults and two children) - £35

Getting There:
Take the no. 20 bus from the Oxford train station or Gloucester Green bus station in the city centre to Woodstock. With return, it is £3.70. The times are either 5 minutes past the hour or 25 minutes to the hour, and the journey takes 30 minutes. Direct bus contact: 01865 772250

This is the only palace in the UK that does not belong to the royal family. Queen Ann had awarded it to the first Duke of Malborough, and now I think it belongs the present Duke of Malborough, the 7th or 8th generation of the Churchill Spencer family. It is in Woodstock town, around 10 miles from Oxford city centre, you can get there by shuttle bus from the palace and it will charge you together with the entrance fee, or you can get there by bus from the bus station as well (cannot remember the number, either 20 or 27). There is an official guide to lead your way through the palace, and tell you the history of the war involved. There is a maze outsie the palace to enter and play in; a small train can deliver you to the butterfly house, and a botanical garden. The bridge over the lake is worth walking over, because you can get a very great view of the palace to photograph, and of the Victory monument to honour the Duke of Malborough as well. You should not leave the palace from the main entrance, there is another one, so that you can have time to enjoy the small town of Woodstock, and do some window shopping or have some afternoon tea. You won't be disappointed.
