We headed out to sea and anchored in a place off there to feed the sharks! They put a rope in the water and people, with their masks and snorkels on, had to stay on one side and the sharks on the other while they were fed. We weren’t too sure that the sharks knew their place. They were quite small, though. Even so!
The next stop was on a sandbank to feed the rays. We got into the water with rays. There were lots of them and some of them were huge. They were unexpectedly gentle, friendly and playful and we stroked and petted them. If they wanted attention they just came along and nudged you. We fed them, taking care to keep our fingers out of their mouths, but drew the line at kissing them!
From there we headed off to our motu and our designated picnic area. We had a swim and snorkel while lunch was being prepared and enjoyed seeing the coloured fish and coral.
By the time that lunch was ready to be served the heavens had opened and torrential rain was the order of the day! We huddled under the shelter and ate our very good lunch of barbecued fish and chicken, rice salad, noodles, bread and fresh pineapple and pamplemousse. They also supplied drinks -– wine, beer, soft drinks and punch.
The rain eventually stopped so we went back into the water and had a longer time snorkelling. Lots of fish -– black and white, yellow, rainbow etc. There were several rays in the shallow water by the boat.
