Only a short distance across the crevassed glacier leading from the top terminus of the rack-and-pinion railway a pleasant and straightforward ridge-climb gained the 4000metre peak for a superb view over the surrounding peaks and glaciers of the Bernese Oberland including the nearby Wetterhorn and the adjoining Eiger and Jungfrau.
The Monch is the easiest ( alpine grade PD ) of the three summits forming the famous alpine trinity - all three well within the capabilities of a moderate mountaineer.
