Kringlan is known as 'The Mall.' That's because it is the only mall in Iceland. Woolens are a big item you will find everywhere, and if you live in a cold climate, you need Icelandic wool. Islandia specializes in Icelandic Handicrafts. Any purchases you make are duty free; you will be given a reciept that you will present to the bank at Keflavik Airport on your departure for a refund of taxes paid.
The Hard Rock Cafe is located in Kringlan Mall. Local beer and Vodka are very good.
While walking through the City Center, there are a host of specialty shops selling Icelandic wares. Up the hill from the center is the Tourist office (very helpful in planning day trips, etc.) and tucked in there are even more shops.
Ikea also has a store-- it is interesting to see what prices are (and if you do the math - Iceland is not an inexpensive place to live). Everything from McDonalds to Shell Gasoline is much higher priced in Iceland.
