Mixed Feelings

We visited the crafts market, and I must say that it left me with mixed feelings. I really wanted to support every single booth owner, but of course, that's not realistic. I wouldn't say that they were pushy, but they all wanted your business. However, they were very polite, and I felt safe while I was there. They all had pretty much the same items for sale, and they would bargain until you agreed to buy something from them. I would go back and buy from them again when I return to MoBay.

one love...

It was exciting and cutthroat. They have a central craft market in Montego Bay where many vendors are bunched together, each selling roughly the same items and trying to get you into their store as opposed to their next door neighbors. There are lots of bargains to be had, if you work hard -- but the vendors are good negotiatiors, too. Still, very interesting crafts, and we took more than a few home. I especially liked the gray stone which would not scratch, regardless of what you rubbed it on . . . of course, I forgot what it's called!

If you venture into town to do some shopping, be prepared to haggle. It was a little aggressive for me...I found myself becoming frustrated with the approach of the locals. So, if you must shop...take your patience along with you.
