The path to view the glacier is well marked and is initially well constructed. As you near the lookout point, the path is made of large rocks and therefore careful footing is needed. However, once at the lookout point, a magnificent view is to be had looking at the ice-filled lake at the foot of the glacier, and on a fine day Lake Pukaki. It is a wonderful spot to sit and take in the awesome beauty of the Southern Alps. In the same area, there is another walk that will take you to the shores of the lake.

Disappointed that the weather did not permit a ski-plane flight with a glacier landing, we drove to Lake Tekapo, where we took an Air Safari tour instead. Fabulous! We even received an official Flight Certificate.
