If you like to ski then all I can say is WOW!! Mt. Potts is New Zealand's only Cat skiing/snow boarding operation. A great alternative to ultra expensive heli skiing, for those of us on a budget. The prices are incredibly cheap, the staff fantastic, friendly and professional. The scenery incredible. The terrain filthy filthy filthy! (That's skier slang for outstanding) Steep cutes, huge rocks to jump off of, and even mellower stuff for the not so adventurous skier.
The morning starts off with a great hot breakfast, usually pancakes, poached eggs or the like. And then you meet out in front of the lodge for the avalanche transciever demo. Then everyone loads up into a Mercedes Benz army truck (called the Unimog) filled with mattresses in the back, for a 1/2 hour ride to the mountain and the cat. Then, let the fun begin! A full day skiing or boarding, with a bag lunch that consists of two sandwiches, a muffin, and some juice. Then back to lodge to tell lies and grin from ear to ear at the slippery trout bar, where the drinks are strong and reasonably priced (NZ$2.50 for domestic beer) a cozy lodge with wood stove, playstation, and a gourmet meal at dinner time. You need to be at least an intermediate skier/boarder to do this.
