Trekking with Ultimate Descents

The Annapurna Range was so beautiful. The scenery was beautiful throughout the whole trekking route. We were lucky to have really good weather (very sunny!)Waking up early in the morning to see the sunrise on the mountains is definitely worth it. We slept comfartably in tents and the porters always cooked really nice meals for us. Meeting other people while trekking was nice, as most people were friendly and we could just exchange hellos or talk about what's coming up/our experiences...At one point, we would always be trekking upward (this worked our thighs) and at another point, we would always be trekking downward (this worked our calves) so it was definately good exercise!Walk at your own pace and make it enjoyable ;-)

The Annapoorna Trek

Although the ENTIRE Annapoorna trek (which circles the Annapoorna range of Himalayan mountains) lasts 21 days, one does not need to do the whole thing. It is possible to do a part of the trekking route at your own pace and time and return back to base camp.

To trek, one does not have to be bizarre, a mountaineer or an athlete. Anyone with a pair of strong legs and the spirit of adventure to explore the exotic, will enjoy the thrills of trekking in the hills of Nepal. Walking in the interior of the country follows ancient foot trails which meander through the scenic banks, intricately terraced fields and the forested ridges connecting picturesque hamlets and mountain villages. In this immensely diverse and undulating topography, varied climate and mix of people Nepal combines to produce a magical attraction for outsiders. Many visitors come to trek here - sometimes, a bit too many.

Annapurna Circuit Trek

This was the most amazing experience of my life from a travel standpoint. No matter how many pictures and movies you've seen of the Himilayas, it will still steal your breath away every morning as you look up at these majestic peaks. It's humbling and inspiring at once. Skip the overpriced organized trips, however, and form a small group on your own. You'll be much more comfortable because the organized groups stay in tents, while the independent hikers stay in lodges--for $2 or $3 a night tops. Plus they have warm restaurant areas where you can while away the night before bed. Anyone who's reasonably fit can do this trek; because there are so many villages with places to stay along the way, you can be pretty flexible about how far you hike each day. Just pack light, bring two or three hundred bucks tops, and leave the world of traffic, noise, and pollution behind. See the Lonely Planet guide for details, but plan carefully about what time of year to go: spring and late fall (esp. November) are the most ideal.
