You can't go wrong hunting for picturesque farmland coupled with standing stones and castles here. Caverlock is probably the most popular but still worth a visit. Don't miss a very powerful set of small standing stones in the middle of the Machars. Get your Historic Scotland membership and some good maps and you are never more that 20min away from another castle, abby, stone circle or cuter than kittens village.
Not my game but I'm told the fishing here is unreal.
