Description: Start out early when coming to see the
Crocodile Hunter at the Australia Zoo! The road between the Gold Coast and the Glasshouse Mountains area can become quite congested! Better yet, hop on the train in Brisbane and relax during your journey.
The park is rather large, and currently in the midst of construction. Apparently, they are adding a large stadium to accomodate the many tourists flocking to see Steve and Terri Irwin, and their ultra-cute daughter, Bindi Sue.
The park has many animals on display, from crocs, to dingoes, to the world's oldest known tortoise, Harriet, who was brought over from the Galopagos Islands by none other than Charles Darwin himself!
If you plan to feed the kangaroos, make sure to buy your kangaroo chow before you take the long walk over to the kangaroo area. There's no roo food for sale anywhere near the area once you arrive! Also, if you want your picture taken holding a koala, arrive early! Many visitors were disappointed to learn this photo opportunity is only available in the morning hours.
If you're not a huge fan of the Crocodile Hunter, you may want to skip this one. I found it very commercialized. The park seems to provide a constant reminder that they get no money from the Aussie government, and I felt over-solicited to make additional donations, give to the adopt-an-animal fund, and buy merchandise to support the park around every turn.
However, I did find the park very clean, the animals well cared-for, and the staff quite knowledgeable.
