Mont Albert North, undefined, Australia
January 15, 2005
The other side of this hill is the forest walk and is a little more difficult than the beach walk, although there is plenty of shade. The views are limited (there is one lookout towards the ocean, affording a view of Burleigh Beach), but there were a number of bush turkeys seen on this route (must still be in hiding after Thanksgiving!). It also passed right by the back door of one of the houses. I'm not sure I would like to be that much on display at home!
The walk over the top offered some magnificent views of the creek and the heads and along the coast towards Coolangatta. It was, for obvious reasons, the steepest of the three tracks, but it also offered the best views. Worth the effort.
From Mariner Shores, the walk to the Headlands was about 2.5km. Add the walk around the Headland and a second walk on another day that took in the top track, and it was quite a distance. It was worth the effort and meant we could fit in a coffee and cake on the way back to Mariner Shores!
