The streets of Gion

The streets of Gion

The streets of Gion are some of the last remaining large areas of traditional architecture in this city. Much of Kyoto's old houses have long been pulled down to be replaced by ugly concrete office buildings and apartment blocks. When you wander around Gion you can imagine what this town must have once been like. With perhaps the clip-clop of a Geisha in her wooden "getas" running for an appointment behind you, keep your eyes and ears open - you just might see one too!
