Logan Pass

Logan Pass is the highest point on the Going-to-the-Sun Road at 6680 ft. There are several trailheads from this area. In mid-June the ground was still mostly covered with snow. We snow-deprived Texans always enjoy a chance to play!

The visitor center has a large parking area which fills up at times. There are restrooms. Inside the center are a bookstore, a huge fireplace, and numbers of park rangers who are available to answer your questions about trails and other aspects of the park.

We had hoped to take the trail to Hidden Lake, but it was still snow-covered, and the ranger didn't recommend going unless you had real hiking boots. Mountain goats are often seen on that trail so I was disappointed that my shoes didn't qualify. However, when we stopped at a viewing area just down the road to the west of the pass, there was movement in the bushes, and behold a very camera-cooperative goat!

Across the road from the visitor center is the entrance to the Highline Trail. It also was closed due to unstable snow. If you visit the park in July or August, the trails should all be open, but it is more crowded then.

No visit to the park should pass without a stop here. The views are magnificent. Once the snow melts, I'm told thousands of wildflowers appear.
