Arabia Factory Shop

This was a nice surprise at the end of tram line 6 (Arabia stop). BUT the line is extending, so it is no longer the last stop.

This is the best place to buy the brands at the heart of Finnish design. If you live outside of the EU, consider having everything shipped home. The reduction in VAT and other discounts can make up for the price of shipping. At least buy an Aalto vase!

Do not confuse the Arabia store on Esplandati with the Arabia FACTORY store.

You mean you don't have an Aalto vase yet or a Kaj Frank tumbler? What about your mother-in-law?

During the tourist months there is a bus shuttling between downtown and the Arabia factory shop, willing to scoot shoppers back and forth. You may also take the tram number 6. The factory shop stocks first and second grade goods in glass and ceramics. There is also an exhibition upstairs. (currently, July 01, they are having a renovation sale)

Whether you are looking to stock up on your elegant Teema set, or you want just a little something for a friend (I recommend any the glass votive candle holders, very sweet, and not too expensive), or you want to get the biggest Aalto vase ever, you should definately make a visit. Famous Designer Names have created products in all categories, also Iittala glassware and Hackman cutlery and crockery, and young designers have also contributed to products.

If you're looking for something prototypically Finnish to take home as a present: Teema mug with Moomin characters!

If you're interested in Finnish dishware and silverware, the Arabia store is the place to go to get Finnish signature dishware. These items command a high price if you purchase them in the States, because of the rising trend factor for elegant yet utilitarian design. This outlet store has stacks of the traditional blue Finnish dishware as well as fun, colorful glassware, candle holders, and pottery. This store made me want to buy some dishes to bring home with me. (Okay, I'm not that crazy, but I did entertain the idea for a second.)
