Beware

OK I guess for newbies. I' ve been diving for over 20 years and signed up for the "Advanced" dive @ $175. I was told that the boat minimum was 4 divers and that I made the 4th and that there would be 4 divers (and I assumed a captain and a divemaster). I got there and the boat had 11 divers. The operators had invited a bunch of their friends.

The operators are very nice people and the divers they invited were all very nice and good divers. But I can't help resenting being a paying customer - and there WERE four of us - footing the cost of the charter and having the operators invite a bunch of friends for a freebie on the mainlanders.

My recommendation with boat dives is that you check on the cancellation policy limits (usually 24 hours) and call just before that time and ask specifically HOW MANY will be on the boat and if it's a cattle boat situation, or not what you expected or were told, just cancel.

Jack's obviously doesn't care what their paying divers expect. Beware.

This is great for shark-spotting, dolphins, and whales in season. There's a good crew who are knowledgeable about marine life. Good rental gear and big retail shop. They also run snorkel charters, instruction, etc.

We went on a boat SCUBA diving trip with Jack's Diving locker. The staff was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The water was calm, clear and 86 degrees. The dive guide took digital photos of the fish and divers, which was available for purchase at the end of the day. This is a first rate dive operation, and I will go diving with them next time I am in town.

Rental gear is avaialble, however I had my own gear and did not need to rent anything, since tanks and weights were included in the boat trip. They provided lunch and drinks for all divers, and were able to provide vegetarian meals for those who wanted them.
