Lawai Beach

Little Beach by Lawai Beach Resort. Doesn't really have a name, doesn't really have a beach. It is on the road up to the spouting horn out of Poipu -- you'll know you're in the right place when you see a lot of people snorkeling right by the road. A restaurant is on the east end of the beach, and the Lawai Beach Resort is sort of across the street. Basically, it's a place to just get out of the car, snorkel gear in hand, get in the water, snorkel 'til you get cold, get out, get back in car, and drive to beach to veg. Not very relaxing, but awesome snorkeling. Sort-of facilities across the road by where you park.

We stayed at the Lawai Beach Resort so all we had to do was walk across the road. Snorkeling was great! I love to snorkel and this is one of my faviorite places. There is never a lot of people on the small beach so you have ample room to snorkel. I have seen so many differant fish here, from large parrot fish to very small angle fish. This is a small reef but a good one.

Lawai Beach

Lawai beach is just a little narrow beach off to the side of the Beach House Restaurant and across the street from the Lawai Resort.

This beach was on the list given to us from our resort as a good place to snorkel, so we decided to give it a try. When we first drove by the beach, we almost decided to continue on. The beach is quite small and doesn't look like much, but we really enjoyed the snorkeling here! From the road (Lawai Rd) to the water was probably only about 30 feet. This is also the only area we even saw sea turtles for the whole week we snorkeled in Kauai (unlike the Big Island where they were everywhere). This was perhaps our favorite spot to snorkel on this trip (in Jan.) We weren't the only ones there; it wasn't crowded, but for it's size, there were a fair number of people there.

The entry into the water is a very gentle sandy slope and there is a reef barrier that protects the little bay. For heartier snorkellers and divers, there are several channels out to deeper waters.
