La Sabana is San Jose's old airport; now it's a large green space with trees, fields, and lakes in the heart of San Jose. From the end of Paseo Colon, you can walk through the park and around the lakes. I once fell in one of the lakes (on a second date) and had to go home wet up to my knees. But usually that doesn't happen, and in the dry season you can spend a lovely afternoon lying in the grass or eating copos, or snow cones made with shaved ice, flavored syrup, and two kinds of milk (sweetened condensed and evaporated). Yum.
