Description: Named “The Incomparable Palace” upon its completion in 1578, this once-fabulous landmark is now a deserted ruin populated only by the storks that nest on its cracked stone walls. It’s also a fascinating way to spend a Moroccan afternoon. The original building is thought to have consisted of 360 rooms, and featured a massive courtyard and an impressive pool stretching 100 yards by 20 yards, once decorated in opulence with imported Italian marbles and copious Sudanese gold. You may get claustrophobic in the palace’s tunnel-like jail, but as you’re exploring the ruined terraces, kitchens and offices, it’s not hard to imagine the splendor that once existed here.
