Sand Dunes

There are many ways to experience the sand dunes. The National Seashore offers guided walks. The have a three hour, four mile walk that takes you to meet an artist-in-residence and experience the quality of light, natural environment, and isolation that attracts artists and writers. Below the visitor center there is a one hour, one mile walk that explores the dunes. There is also a two mile walk into the dunes at Pilgrim Lake in Truro.

Another way to see the dunes is to go cruising in a sturdy four-wheel drive vehicle. Art's Dunes Tours is terrific. They are located on the corner of Standish and Commercial Street. Your vehicle goes up, over, and around the dunes. It's very bumpy. You will stop to meet the resident of a dune shack. The driver narrates the entire time and you even get to see the plovers. It is great. We did it and all had fun.
