Worth Going to...

There was so much to do and so much to see. My family and I had so much fun here even though it was like 90 degrees outside. They have so many vendors and things to eat. Try a cream puff from Schmidt's and some BBQ from L&R ? i think that was the name. Anyway, Great family day and definitely have an ice cream from the dairy section by the birthing area. It is so fresh and deicious.

Ohio State Fair-Milk Shake?

I visited the fair for the first time in 20 yrs. last week. My wife, myself and young daughter had a nice time until we were on the way out. We decided to get some ice cream at the dairy building. My daughter got a dip of stawberry ice cream and was delighted. My wife and I ordered a vanilla milk shake and chocolate milk shake and was dissapointed with what we received. The dairy barn's idea of a milk shake is a cup of soft serve ice cream, no fruit, no flavor, not good if you are expecting a mlik shake. I asked the waitress if our order was correct and she "yes, these are milk shakes". I asked why there wasn't any ice cream in them and she replied "I suppose you think we should have someone cranking out ice cream in the back too"! Needless to say I was pretty ticked!! I live near a small town in Ohio and we have a small ice cream shop. They make milk shakes with real ice cream and they don't hand crank it out back. Guess I'm used to the real thing and polite waitresses.

Ohio State Fair-Deep Fried Veggies

If you visit the Ohio State Fair, you must eat deep fried veggies that can be zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, and mushrooms. Very low carbohydrates but very high fat. Great for a low carb diet. Whenever we got these veggies, all three of us would share. We all enjoyed these veggies. Except for the high fat content, it was healthy and we were eating our veggies.

Ohio State Fair--Ice Cream

If you go to the Ohio State Fair, you have to visit the dairy building and buy some ice cream. Beware though--if you ask for two scoops, you will receive about a pint of ice cream. It is hard to eat it before it starts to drip. But it is SO good on a hot Ohio State Fair day. You can order chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla and sometimes other flavors. My favorite is strawberry.

While you are in the dairy building, take a look at the Butter Cow display. This years display honored the Wright brothers. Also, you can purchase various "Got Milk" items, like a cow, "Got Milk" apron, tote bag, etc.

But the ice cream is delicious and they serve very generous portions. If you go to the Ohio State Fair, you must get some ice cream.

Ohio State Fair-Blooming Onion

A Blooming Onion eaten at the Ohio State Fair is delicious. A little high in fat because it is deep fried but oh so good! It is low carbs but the fat content is high because it is deep fried. One onion is fun to share with one or two other people. A little too much just for one person. When you attend the Ohio State Fair, do not miss it.
