Manhattanites are known to boast about pierogies and pad thai delivered to their doors at 3am, but if you want to shut them up, just ask them where they go when they crave Polanski or The Scent of Green Papaya to go with their late night snack.

Video Central in German Village has Insomnia, the creepy Danish thriller that was remade into a summer blockbuster, as well as the largest and most diverse selection of DVDs in Ohio. And just in case your sleep-deprived mind hasn’t gotten it yet, they’re open 24/7.

Even at 2am, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and humble; instead of the traditional staff pick’s section, Video Central defers to the opposing thumbs of Roger Ebert and the late Gene Siskel. Video Central's Foreign and Cultr selections are particularly noteworthy, and the bargain bin of previously viewed videos and DVDs is a cinephile's delight. The owners also have a slightly inferior location on North High St. in Clintonville.
