There was a lot of restoration being done when we were here. And many of the works that were not in restoration sure need to be. It’s obvious that Siena doesn’t have the same monetary power as Florence or Venice, because many of the prettiest works here haven’t been restored, whereas practically everything in Florence and Venice is sparkling perfect. But there were some beautiful decorations here –frescoes, an ornate wood choir in the chapel, a deep red carved ceiling in one of the rooms.

Palazzo Publico

The 13th century Palazzo Publico, otherwise known as Town Hall, towers over the Piazza del Campo. Still home to Siena's town officials, it's a pretty impressive building that also houses an interesting art museum, Museo Civico, in case you haven't seen enough frescoes yet. I remember some of the allegorical artwork in that museum to be particularly creepy, but it was fun wandering around this huge castle.

Though I can't remember the name of it, there is a nice little restaurant behind the Palazzo Publico that is worth checking out. Both times I ate there the food was great and the service was quick! Amazing!!

This is the town hall. There are some famous frescoes in the Museum, but the main attraction is the Bell Tower (Torre del Mangia.) It may not look that tall, but when you climb those steep stone stairs, be careful to keep looking up and not down. There were some tense moments, especially if you are scared of heights. But once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a marvelous view of Siena and the Piazza below. Simply enchanting!
