Ernest Tubb Record Shop

As with a lot of the other activities and destinations I've mentioned in this review, it's kind of wrong to visit the city of Nashville, the heart and soul of country music, and not visit the legendary Ernest Tubb Record Shop.

Unless you are an avid record collector, or have some other reason for wanting to visit this shop, in many ways it's just a technicality. Pop in for a look around and to say that you've been. But such little moments contribute to the joy of travelling, and if you do have the time, I would suggest doing it, for exactly those reasons.

There is a great selection of country music here to look through, and you can't possibly miss it when walking down Broadway in Nashville. But like I said, unless you're going to look for some obscure country music album that you can't seem to find anywhere online, the place doesn't have a lot to offer entertainment wise. But that doesn't mean it's not worth stopping in, having a browse, getting a good, rich wallow in the history and the soul of the place, and maybe picking up something as a souvenir. And with everything else in Nashville, you never know who you might run into!

Ernest Tubb Record Shop

Opened in 1947 by country music singer and actor Ernest Tubb, this shop contains an encyclopedic catalogue of country music recordings. Whether you want Bluegrass or Cowboy, Gillian Welch or Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb's will have it. My husband, Steve, wanted a copy of a song we had heard being covered by a band at the Bluegrass Inn. Despite knowing only two words and a small amount of the tune, he sang it to the lady behind the counter who, with confirmation from her colleague, identified it as "Hello Trouble" by Orville Couch and found the album for him to buy. Marvellous! The shop sells C.D.'s, cassettes and some vinyl recordings. Be aware - if you are a music fan you may spend quite a lot of time and money in there.

The shop has three branches. The original store on Broadway, shop number 2 at 2416 Music Valley Drive (where the "Midnite Jamboree" takes place on Saturdays) and inside Nashville Airport.

Ernest Tubb Record Shop

If you like country music then this is the place for you to shop. From the very famous to the obscure country music artist, if they ever made a recording then it is sure to be here. One can spend hours going through the thousands and thousands of CD's and other music memorabilia throughout the store. The store was founded by the legendary Ernest Tubb, 54 years ago, to promote country music. Although he started his musical career in Texas, Tubb was the first country artist to record in Nashville and soon after made it his home.
