Sailing daily from Bar Harbor Inn pier is the Margaret Todd, a 151-foot, four-mast schooner. Offerings include a morning sail, park ranger-narrated cruise, afternoon sail, and the popular sunset sail.
Before boarding, they take your picture on the pier. When you disembark, the photo package is available for purchase ($20). We could have done without this.
On a beautiful, clear evening, we set out on the sunset cruise. After motoring away from the pier, the captain called for volunteers to help raise the sails. Soon we were in full sail into Frenchman's Bay.
The crew was friendly and entertained passengers with guitar and banjo music. Soda and water were available for purchase, or you could bring your own. The cruise did not have a specific itinerary, and just went back and forth awaiting the sunset. And it was worth the wait, as it was a spectacular sight indeed. After the sun went down, we headed back to the pier under full sail as the bright orange moon rose overhead.
