Take the Tube to Angel in Islington and you’ll emerge, on what seem to be the world’s longest escalators, into a bustling North London neighborhood. Marks and Spencer (London’s biggest department store chain) and Sainsbury’s (one of London’s few supermarkets) are just over the road, as is an open-air market during the day. A new performing arts center is just 1 block away, and there’s a movie megaplex in the other direction. Look for American favorites, like Border’s, along with trendy clothing shops, wine stores, and furniture boutiques. If you’re not in the shopping mood, come for dinner and choose from the many ethnic cuisines – Upper Street is known for having some of the best varieties in London. For a tranquil moment, stop by the church or one of the parks, or simply hop one of the many busses heading back to all areas of London.
