Magic Kingdom

Since most people know the basics of Disney World, I'm going to focus on two of my favourite attractions in the Magic Kingdom.

My favourite attraction is Carousel of Progress. Unfortunately, this isn't a very popular one, so it's only open during the busiest times of the year. This attraction is a show where you watch an animatronic family go through the years and discuss new technology around their home. It sounds boring and dry, but parts are very funny and it holds your attention surprisingly well. The song that plays during scene changes is very catchy - I have the whole thing memorized. A must-see attraction!

Another favourite of mine is Splash Mountain. This may look like a typical log flume ride, but it's nothing like one at all. It takes a full 7 minutes to go through the mountain, and you're being told a story the entire time. The story of Brier Rabbit grows darker and darker after every drop, and reaches its climax right before the big famous end drop. After the drop, you see the happy ending while Zip-a-dee-doo-dah plays in the background. The drop never loses its impact, so this is one log flume worth multiple rides.

From the moment you step into the Magic Kingdom, you know Walt would be proud. All the rides are creative, fun, and well-maintained. The park is kept sparkling clean and staff is always friendly, especially towards little kids. And of course, one thing makes the Magic Kingdom better than all the other parks in Disney World—that awesome castle that every little girl (and most big ones) wants to live in!

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom

In my opinion, Magic Kingdom is kind of dull for adults. We went here for our honeymoon last year as well (in Anaheim), and I still feel the same. However, if you have children this place is the best park in all of Disney.

The park is divided into 6 colored areas with Cinderella's Castle in the center of all of them.

When you enter, you come upon Main Street U.S.A. Here you will find shops to buy souvenirs, restaurants, and park services (lockers, lost and found, season passes, etc.) This is where the daily parade ends so in the afternoons, you will find rows up people lined up here to waiting for it.

If you walk straight down Main Street and veer left, you will be in Adventureland. Here you will find Pirates of the Caribbean ride (one of our favorites) and the Jungle Cruise. POFC consists of a boat ride through the action made by animatronic characters of a true pirate adventure.

Further back on the far left you will find Frontierland. It's a very old fashion western type area. In the middle there is a lack on an island where kids can run around. This is where everyone buys their turkey legs. The best rides here are Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Then, on the right side you will come upon Liberty Square. This very patriotic area has the Hall of President and the most crowded Haunted Mansion. Here you will get on a slow moving seated tram and ride through a house filled with ghouls and ghosts. Don't worry, it's pretty mild, more funny than scary.

Continue walking and you will be in Fantasyland. Here is the place to go immediately if you have young children. All the rides here are for kids 10 and under. Be warned that this area is seriously crowded at all times.

The final area that completes the loop is Tomorrowland. The Indy Spaceway here always has a long line, but its fun. Driving around in a car on a track may seem tame, but when you have a two year old driving, it can be quite exciting when they bump into you. Space mountain is also here - the original roller coaster in the park - is one of the very few in the United States that is indoors. Most people wind up here in the evening and its pretty crowded at night particularly due to all the lights and sounds that come alive once the sun goes down.

Parasailing over the Magic Kingdom

The Contemporary Hotel has many activities to offer in this deluxe resort. One of is parasailing over the Seven Seas Lagoon. You can go solo or tandem up a few-hundred feet into the air. I can't recall the actual cost, but it is well worth it. For an extra fee, you can have the company take photographs of you going up. I brought my digital camera and caught some phenomenal sights from high up there. The take off is a bit scary at first, but once you get going, its breath taking.

The rides were great fun. Everyone will enjoy this park. Disney characters walk around and sign autographs for children and adults, and they will take a picture with you. Food and drinks are expensive, though.

Walt Disney World - MGM

We have annual passes to Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure, and this was my very first visit to MGM Studios. It was nice going to a different theme park for a change. I had a lot of fun. There is one ride I don't believe I can stomach again, called The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. It was fun, however, very scary for me. If you think you would like a ride similar to an elevator dropping you from mid air, this is one ride you will love.
