Dennis the Menace Park

This place is a child's paradise. It is just a hop skip and a jump from the beach or the wharf. This is one of the most amazing free public parks I've been to. I can't pass by it without my kids begging to go there.

It is located next to a medium sized lake. It has ample space around it for a nice picnic and also a place to rent paddle boat for an hour for a few bucks. And you can never go wrong with feeding the geese and ducks that frequent the area. It's is frowned upon by the city to do this but have never seen anyone warned against this. Also the birds around there are quite comfortable with humans and you'll end up feeding them whether or not you want to. The main park actually consists of two parks, a playground area, and a skate park.

The playground area is full of any type of playground equipment you can think of, slides of different lengths and inclines fit enough for kids of all ages. Some of them were so steep that my wife wouldn't go down them. There is also a huge jungle gym with one of the bigger suspension playground bridges that I have seen. There are also several teeter tooters and swings. But one of the coolest things is that there is a full sized replica of a steam engine right in the front. Though I would be worry of having smaller kids playing on this without close supervision; it seems like it would be too easy for a kid to fall off and hurt themselves.

The skate park is a fairly decent sized one with a whole variety of ramps, quarter pipes, half pipes, and rails to please skate boarders and inline skaters of most skill levels. For safety I even believe that there is a fire station that is over by the picnic side of the park.

Overall this is a great place to take kids to have a nice cheap day of fun. It's been a few months now since we've gone, but it is something that my 4-year-old daughter remembers and keeps asking when we are going to go back there.

Dennis the Menace Park

Dennis the Menace Park has to be the best park that I have ever visited. I was astounded by how nice it is!

The creator of Dennis the Menace, Hank Ketchum had a major role in designing this park, and he did a great job.

This park is more than just a playground. Far from it. The park features a nice lake where you can rent a paddleboat or feed the ducks.

The park has a nice baseball diamond that is well cared for. One of the main attractions for children is an authentic Southern Pacific engine that people can climb on. One of the coolest features of the park is the fact that certain areas that children may take a tumble on, are made with a soft, high-impact absorbing material. I believe that it may be made from recycled rubber. It is really cool to walk on.

This park is not only great fun for children, but also for the parents as well. It features a climbing wall, wide slides, a rope bridge, a maze of bushes, and a number of other things that everyone will enjoy.

I was really impressed with this park. I wish that I had such a nice park where I live!

The park is open from 10am to Sunset everyday.

I remember Dennis the Menace Park from my own childhood. How wonderful to find it is still enjoyed by kids today! It is a wonderful public playground by the lake with enough slides to make Hank Ketchum's rambunctious cartoon creation proud. This is a great place to bring a family to run free and burn up excess energy.

Inquire at the visitors' center on Camino El Estero about paddleboat rental for the lake.
