The railroad takes you through strasburg. You see beautiful amish farm land. The ride is very comfortable. The shops are wonderful. At the gift shop you can find souveniers. When, I went I bought a magnet clip, keychain, and pen . There are very nice in the gift shop. Their is also a candy shop where you can find different confections. Their is penny candy but what I really like is the salt water taffy. While you are visiting Strasburg you should check out the Choo-Choo Barn. It has miniature trains and cars.

This was an unplanned trip to the railroad, we originally went down to the Field of Screams and it was late by the time we left there, so we got a room and spent the night. While looking through the brochures in the lobby we found the railroad, which we thought; well, we would have the whole day the following day so why not stop on by. Well I can say that it was a day well spent. The kids had a blast. And it just so happened that we were there on the same day they had Thomas the Tank! The kids were so excited. It was actually very well paid priced, we got two train rides: one on Thomas and one coach for a family of 4 for $88, less than the Field of Screams!
They also had a few little things for the kids to do such as the cranky car, pump car, the switch tour, and the cagney train which is a mini train that was originally used as an amusement park ride.
The Railroad Museum of PA was really fun too, they have real trains on display, a control deck where you can sit and see what it is like to run a train, explore a caboose, sit in a passenger car, see under a stem engine, they have model trains and toy trains for kids to play with and so much more. Kids under 6 are free, so for the other 3 of us who had to pay it cost a mere $19 and if you happen to get an entertainment book they have a bunch of coupons like BOGO's so it would cost even less. I can't wait to take the kids back again and have a exciting day and do some of the things we didn't do on this trip. If you love trains, your kids or grandkids do, I really suggest you take them here they will love and I bet you will too!

For the train lovers among you, or for those of you who just want to sit it out, try a ride through the countryside on this old-time train. The prices I quoted were for the standard coach. There is also a lounge car, parlor car, and dining car. If you would like to arrange for dinner, reservations have to be made in advance. There is one stop made by the train at Groff's Grove. If you and your family would like to disembark, you can pack a picnic lunch, enjoy it and your surroundings, and pick up the train, when you are finished, returning back to the station. Check the train schedule though. If you are still in the train mode after the relaxing ride, check out the Railroad Museum of PA, across from the railroad station. There are hands-on exhibits for children and adults, and you can actually sit in the engineer's seat of a locomotive. There is a collection of more than 100 historic locomotives and rail cars. Enjoy your day!
