Excellent - the views were the best. Although there were crowds, I would go back in a heartbeat, if not for the awesome skiing/riding, then for the awesome view. The conditions on the 11th were icy in the morning but softening up quickly with the rising temperature. I thing the temperature on Friday reached the high '50s, and there were so many people without coats and even some in shorts. I wish I had not brought my coat - it was HOT!

Well, we were limited due to the snow, but the gambling was great, and the boarding was absolutely remarkable. With powder up to my chest and no one on the slopes, it could not have been better.

I won't give details as to how to get there, but Heavenly has some of the best OB skiing in Tahoe with no one on it. We skied a 2,000-foot vertical and face-shot powder one run after another. It's a good bit of work to get in and out of the area, but wow, is it worth it!

We went to Lake Tahoe for one reason. To ski. The Lake Tahoe area has many different ski resorts, each with its own pros and cons. Since we were staying at the Tahoe Seasons Resort right across the street from Heavenly Mountain, we decided we would go there.

The lift across the street was a cable-car tram that held about thirty people. It takes you about half way up the mountain to an area with restaurants where you can catch other lifts going in different directions.

Overall, it was a very nice mountain. They had great trails that were always freshly groomed, and it wasn’t crowded at all. (Maybe that was because we came toward the very end of the season, I don’t know.) The trails aren’t quite as nice as those at Keystone Mountain in Colorado (which we have been to many times), but are right below it. We tried riding the gondola to the other side of the mountain, but found that to be not as nice. Also, the gondola took much longer to progress up the mountain.

Perhaps the coolest thing about Heavenly is that you can actually ski across the state line. You’ll just be going along a trail and see a sign that says "Now entering California." The view is also spectacular! From the top of the mountain, you can see all of Lake Tahoe. It’s one of the most beautiful views you may ever see. All in all, a great ski resort.

Snow at Heavenly

Heavenly remains the family's favorite resort for skiing and snowboarding. Tahoe has so many resorts that none seem too crowded, and Heavenly is such a huge resort you can spend all day on the mountain without ever using the same trail twice. My husband's favorite aspect are the views - but I LOVE the way all the trails are so well marked and LARGE maps posted and all lifts and other major trail intersections.
