Marine Corps War Memorial

The Iwo Jima Memorial was my absolute favorite monument. I learned that every time a Marine is killed in active duty... they give the family the flag from the memorial and replace it. I thought that was remarkable.
We took the monuments by moonlight tour on the Old Town Trolley, it was truly dark out when we got to the Iwo Jima... making it even more mystical than in daylight. I mean.. you see photos of this all the time, but nothing can prepare you for the real thing.
Best way to see it is on a guided tour... it's definitely off the beaten path.
You can purchase tickets for the Old Town Trolley on-line at: www.oldtowntrolley.com
Prices run at $28.80 for adults, $14.40 for children.
