Avignon Fringe Festival

Avignon's fringe festival, known as "Festival Off" is one of the city's main summer attractions. Events number literally in the hundreds, including street performances, theatre, dance, music, performance art, and performances for children - just about anything you can imagine! Regardless of the language you speak, there is something for everyone, as there is a tremendous variety, from what one might consider traditional, to the off-beat, and even bizarre. The manner in which the fringe groups advertize their shows is just as entertaining as the actual performances, as they wander the streets trying to attract your attention. An excellent booklet is available listing all fringe events, and a festival pass that will save you some money is also available if you plan to see a few events. Performances run all day and late into the evening. The quality varies, as with any fringe festival, but my experience has been that you will always be entertained. Avignon itself has much to offer, but the "Off" is an added delight.
