Areas all around the Door County Peninsula

All along the coastline of the Door County peninsula there are pull-offs and beach areas, many of which have hiking trails. It's a great area to explore and discover the unique geology of the area. There is abundant wildlife and panoramic views of either Green Bay or Lake Michigan, depending on which side of the peninsula you're on. When I was there, it was still chilly on the windward side, but the lee side was balmy and fresh.

The shoreline is wooded with hardwoods and cedars. The cedars give the area an aroma which takes you back to the days of the pioneers. Take the time to relax and get into the rhythm of nature. After a good dose of the "back to earth" feel of the area, you will find yourself energized and refreshed.

The park is awesome for cross-country skiing. There are tons of different routes which are well maintained throughout the winter. Several routes are available for all levels. There are steep hills for the intermediate/expert levels, as well as bunny hills or no hills for the beginner. Ski rentals are available, just follow the signs when you get to the park entrance.

Atop of all the variety of routes, the scenery is magnificent in the winter. Fresh white snow that seems to go for miles and miles across Green Bay. The park is just a short drive from anywhere in Door County.

Beautiful State Park in in the middle of Door County. The beach is large and clean. There are public restrooms and showers. Thre is also a concession stand. Also on the beach is a playground for the children. There are many beautiful biking and hiking trails in the park. You can rent bikes across the street fom the entrance to the park or right inside the entrance. Both places have great new model bikes for all ages. For children, you can rent carriers or the little tandem bikes that attach to the adult bikes. Tandem adult bikes are also available. When on the trails make sure to stop and enjoy all the beautiful views. If you are interested, check out the lighthouse.

Large wooded campsites, some near the beach of Horseshoe Bay, make camping at Peninsula State Park an enjoyable, relaxing experience. The Park also houses an outdoor theater for evening entertainment. Hiking and biking trails crisscross the woods and fields. A Ranger Tower challenges you to climb to the top for a breathtaking view of the bay, and an 18 hole golf course is just inside the park's boundaries.
