Sunset at Paradise Point

Paradise Point has one of the most breathtaking views in all of the Caribbean, especially at sunset. Sit back at the cafe with a bucket of beer and watch the cruise ships depart as the sun sinks under the ocean. There's a band that plays and a few pirate stores you can pick up some trinkets in. The tram down the mountain in the dark shows every twinkling light in Charlotte Amalie.

Sunset at Paradise Point

On Wednesdays the gondola to Paradise Point is free ($12/person at other times), so we went on Wednesday during the late afternoon. If you are afraid of heights, don't go on the gondola but drive up to the top instead. But if you can, ride the gondola. It's definitely worth it. Unfortunately for us there were lots of clouds that evening so the sunset was disappointing, but the view of the harbor was breathtaking. Lights sparkling below, breathing fresh air, listening to the night sounds (when the band was on break). . .aah, the Caribbean!

Paradise Point is a scenic vista overlooking Charlotte Amalie. There is an option to ride a gondola lift up to Paradise Point. We had a rental car and had a bit of a time finding the road up, but it is DEFINITELY worth seeking (it's tucked in behind Al Cohen's Discount Liqour Outlet). The road is narrow and steep. Very exciting!

Plan to arrive at least an hour before sunset to snag a good table! We took full advantage of the 2-for-1 deal on rum punches during happy hour. There was a great reggae cover band called The Sunset Kings.

The sunset was just spectacular. Panoramic pictures galore!
