Indoor Waterpark at Massanutten

Really nice change-of-pace from skiing all week or standalone. The usual assortment of slides, hot spas, lazy river, etc., as well as a "wave simulator" where you can body surf. Food at the cafeteria was pretty good and not overly expensive (about $7 for a burger combo, $5 for personal pizza). The arcade was nice for the kids.

Indoor Waterpark at Massanutten

Kids went in the evening. Waterpark is not complete so there is nothing else to do inside, where there will be a cafeteria, coffee shop, arcade, etc., later on. However, prices still reflect a complete park at the moment. Adults are required to supervise children and pay admission just to watch from the empty coffee shop, so it can be very pricey. Kids loved the waterpark and said they like it better than Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA., so it will probably be even better when it's complete.

Washington D.C. Day Tour

This was a wonderful tour, run by Massanutten Adventures. Our tour guide, Wanda, was a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide who knew Washington, D.C., like the back of her hand. Be prepared to walk a lot and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Kids got to spend the day swimming as well as learning both water and fire safety. Local fire department stopped by to talk with kids and let them view their fire equipment.

Chair lift rides

Chair lift rides

Since Massanutten is a four-season resort and offers great skiing, the off-season use of the chair lifts for a scenic view of the mountains is a great idea. It was another one of those things that made purchasing the activities pass ($99) worthwhile. Regularly it would cost $15/adult, $9 for children to go up the lift. However, since it was sort of a freebie, we went for a ride! The lift runs M-W-F from 9AM ‘til 3PM weather permitting, and starts near the Ski Lodge deck.

The weather was almost perfect the day we went, but it was a bit hazy so the views were not quite as clear as they might have been. The lifts accommodated the usual 2 passengers, so I rode solo as the picture-taker. The ride itself was so relaxing, just taking in the scenery on the way up to Massanutten Peak. I think we changed lifts about halfway up. Once at the top, we were free to walk along the trails and see more spectacular views…a panorama of the surrounding hills and valleys. The chair lift ride was well worth the time, especially relaxing after a full morning of more active pursuits.
