The beach offers free parking, which was great because we didn't plan to stay long. The water is very still which makes it ideal for little kids who want to wade. There are many hermit crabs critters along the water's edge which made it fun even for me. As for the swimming, the water is a little mucky and there is a stange odor, most likely coming from the marshes. There were about 5 people total on the beach and only one wading knee deep in the water. signs posted with warnings of rough currents past the designated smimming areas. There is a boat ramp and a small dock with a few fishing boats moored. The water seems to be ideal for kayaking.
The main draw for me at this beach, however, was the long boardwalk leading through the marsh area to a small deck at the end. On the way we were able to look view crabs scurrying in and out of the little streams. In the middle of the marsh there was a very large nest which, one local woman informed us, belonged to an Osprey. At the small deck at the end of the ramp there were a few girls with raw chicken drumsticks tied to strings. The drumsticks were dropped in the water to lure and catch crabs. Once caught, the crabs scurried about the planks before dropping back into the water.
Off in the distance, past this little deck area, was a bigger beach which looked open to four-wheel drive vehicles. I'll have to explore that beach next time...
