2005 Pac-10 Women’s Basketball Tournament

The only reason we decided to go to San Jose was to see the Arizona Wildcats play at least one more game this season. Over the 4 days, we spent a lot of time at HP Pavilion watching all nine games of the tournament. It was a lot of fun, even though our team lost in their first game. We saw some great games and Nikki Blue scoring 36 points for UCLA and USC almost beating Stanford, the number one team in the nation. We got to see the bands battle each other before the games and great halftime entertainment, including a martial arts show that reminded me of the one I saw in China.

With all the time spent at HP Pavilion, this is where we ate a lot of our meals. The prices of food and drinks are somewhat expensive, as you can expect at a sports arena, but the arena contains a wide variety of food choices. You can find pizza, seafood, popcorn, burgers, and fries among the selections. Overall, we found the food good. I especially like the fries and mom liked the Philly cheesesteak. The only unsatisfactory food was the pizza. It ended up being cold and the cheese stuck to the box.

San Jose Sharks hockey

If you're a hockey fan, there's nothing like hockey in person. And for my fourth hockey game, we chose the Sharks (my team) versus the Vancouver Canucks (my wife's team). Our seats - the second row behind the visitor's bench - were pricey, but well worth it. These seats also offer the special service which brings the food to your seat for you.

The arena is very easy to access from the hotel we stayed at. The train runs down First Street every 15-30 minutes, and once you get downtown, there is a special shuttle bus that runs from the train station to the arena before and after the game.

Overall, a great experience - but the Sharks are also 0-4 when I see them play in person. :(
