Cathedral Rock

If you go on the lower or upper red-rock loop, you can find a small park where you have to pay something like $4 to park for the day.

Walk down the path a bit and go towards the sound of the water. Cross over a plank that is normally there and you can walk into the most majestic place you'll ever be!!

Cathedral Rock is a short hike, but perhaps the most beautiful hike I have ever done. The views are breathtaking. It is very steep in some sections, particularly in the middle of the hike when you have to climb between some boulders with footholds. If you can make it through this section, the rest of the hike is fairly easy. We met several people who turned around at this section. I went slow and did not look down, and the results were well worth it! The view from the top is amazing. I strongly recommend this hike to anyone in the Sedona area.

Hiking at Cathedral Rock

Cathedral Rock Park is great and has many different aspects. There is the creek, a vortex, Cathedral Rock, and great trails among trees. You can either stroll or take a more intermediate hike. If you want to hike up Cathedral Rock directly, you need to share with rude mountain bikers.

This is a very well marked trail -- just follow the cairns. It is always easy to see the next one. The incline of this trail is about 600 feet in less than a mile. Based on physical condition, you may be able to make it all the way up in 30-60 minutes. The $5 parking is well worth it after just a few minutes of climbing. The views are really very rewarding. I would certainly do it again. Although don't expect to be alone on this trail. It is quite popular for a very good reason.

The rocks around Sedona are so majestic; I couldn't stare at them enough. For $5, you get a Red Rock pass (available at many places), which allows you to park near many rock formations and trailheads. There are many hiking trails all around Sedona. It's a great destination for a serious or casual hiker.
