Description: Portland’s Museum of Science and Industry features a host of hands-on exhibits focused on the natural sciences, industry and technology. Highlights include the
USS Blueback, the submarine that appeared in The Hunt for Red October, which visitors can tour daily. Turbine Hall is home to a massive steam turbine, in addition to exhibits focused on engineering, physics, chemistry and space travel. The Life Sciences Hall is focused on biology, and exhibits a wide variety of live animals including rats, walking sticks, chameleons, Madagascar and Hissing Cockroaches, among others. Small children will love the Science Playground, suitable for kids from 0-6, and the whole family can sit back and enjoy the daily astronomy and laser light shows in the museum’s Planetarium.
