VERACRUZ...Monday, July 24.We chose to take in the town on our own. Left the ship and took the water taxi across the harbour to town. Hotter than Hades at 1 pm! As we entered through the gate, to the right as far as we could see were stall after stall of really tacky trinkets. We bought our allotment. When one kid nearly fainted, I took the opportunity to return with her to the ship, leaving Sis-o-Stir and the rest ashore to wander around on their own. We heard mixed reviews of the white water rafting excursion...from rave reviews to scared witless. For the other excursions, you will have to rely on another review.
PLAYA DEL CARMEN...Wednesday, July 26.
We chose Xcaret (pronounced 'ish-car-et'). We had a blast in the short time allotted to this port. We could have stayed for two days! Premier should perhaps switch the time to 6 hours at Veracruz and 12 hours at Playa, IMHO. I am planning a return by air to Playa in November, sans the kids!
COZUMEL...Wednesday, July 26.
We left Playa and were docked in Cozumel within 2 hours. We walked into town from the dock, really across the street...spent mucho dinero on silver and jewels, as we had early excursion Thursday morning. We took the Fury Catamaran trip (our second time to do this) and it was as much fun as the first time 4 years ago! It is touted as the 'booze cruz', but I don't drink and I had a ball, too. We traveled down the coast about 20 minutes and were all dumped out to snorkel. Hard to do when your butt is so bouyant that your head won't stay underwater, but I saw a fish or two by accident. After the snorkeling, the bar was opened and we worked our way to the private beach. Plenty of activities there...volleyball, kayaks, snorkel, floats, shade under the palapas, and a snack bar. The drinks are included in the excursion price, but the snack bar is extra. Be sure you take some cash for the snack bar if you can't wait for the buffet back on the ship. Also, staff takes photos while you are there and those must be paid by credit card or cash BEFORE you re-board the ship. No one told us ahead of time, but the photographer allowed us to run back to the ship and return to the dock to pay and retrieve the photos.
