You Take Your Chances - Use Extreme Caution

Although the internet site does note, "Severe inclement weather may affect Jungle Island’s hours.", the sign at the ticket window does not, nor does the sales rep warn you what constitutes severe weather in their mind. We are from Phoenix, AZ (the no rain state) and I hate rain. Yes, hate is a strong word, but true. That being said, after spending $150, we decided to stay even after a few short rain spurts. (If I could handle it, anyone could!) But after only 1 hour there and four hours before the park closing time, we were told everyone had to leave. Management would only offer everyone a 4 day extension back into the park. I requested a refund since the park personnel who told us they were closing the park said we would get one as we were leaving the next day on our cruise. Management not only refused our refund, but was extremely rude to not only me but several other guests in the same situation. I suggest for what you get there (it is a SMALL zoo), you are better off spending your money elsewhere!

Parrot Jungle Island

Three years ago, back in 2003, we were drove down to Miami from the Ft. Lauderdale area where we stayed at to visit Parrot Jungle Island. When we go there, the doors had just closed. I vowed to visit this place as soon as I would return to the South Florida area. Three years later, I was here again. This time I arrived early and I underestimated my excitement. It was so much better! This was the best of my 4 days spent in South Florida on this particular trip.

Parrot Jungle Island is the Conservatory/Park with the most species of Parrots/Birds in the entire Northern Hemisphere. Here you will see beautiful Macaws, Cockatoos, Lorrikeets, Cockatiels, Conures, Budgies, African Greys, Pigeons, Amazons. You will even see an Australian Cuckabaroo. Parrot Jungle Island has greatly expanded over the years. Though I was not able to see the interior of the park back in 2003, I recall only seeing information about parrots inside of the park. Now, there are reptiles, tigers, lions and monkeys there as well.

There are three shows, one for reptiles, one for birds and one for monkeys/tigers/lions. All three are highly educational and should not be skipped while you are there. All the birds there are extremely talented, and are not just sitting for you to look at them, but instead to interact. Many are not in cages, but on perches so you can get upfront and personal. You can give them a kiss, or pet them, take them on your hand. Many of the birds will let you feed them their grains and seeds. They will sing back to your whistles and speak the words they have been thought. Sometimes they will repeat after you (my Mom taught one of the Cockatoos how to say "cracker").

Most of all, there are not just one or two birds, there are literally hundreds. The entire park is filled with them everywhere. Though the area of the park is not that big, we spent the entire day with the birds and animals at this great place, and it was worth every second. If I could go back there and revisit everything, I would do it right away. Maybe it's because I love parrots and birds so much. Nevertheless, I recommend this wonderful habitat to everyone and have only the best words to say about Parrot Jungle Island.

Parrot Jungle

This whole summer trip started as a desire to recreate family memories I had as a child. I have photos of myself at 3 years old with a parrot on top of my head during a family vacation and again during my teens when we returned. I wanted to have the memories with my granddaughter. Of course the place has changed so much I never would have know it . . .the only thing I did recognize was the large parrot sign in front of the parking garage which was ‘restored’ and placed from the original Parrot Jungle. They still have a bird show at the parrot bowl which was very nice and they have also expanded into various other types of animals. They set up in a posing area (where personal cameras are not allowed) and take the photos you would like of your family holding parrots.

They have a wild animal show at the Jungle Theater which has the most creative ‘gotcha’ at the end. The show ends with them bringing out the most adorable Siberian tiger cub and baby chimpanzee . .they announce you can come up and get your photo take (up to five in a group) for a 40.00 donation to their wildlife fund . .after you tell the kids you are willing to do that - - -as you present your payment they ask you which animal you want your photo with - -one animal is 40.00 two is 60.00 GOT YA!!! So you get a real nice photo for 60.00.

They had the largest alligator which is really worth seeing. . .they call it the ‘crocosaurus’. Hugh is an understatement!!! Then also have a cross between a lion and tiger called a liger which is a real focal po9int of the park. Peanut and Pumkin are their twin baby orangutans who are very cute.

This is a very nice ½ day event. It will keep you very entertained and the lots to see. Bring quarters for the feed machines you will walk by since the kids will want to feed the birds an every opportunity!!!! Adults are about 26.00/ per person and children are about 21.00.

Great place to relax and enjoy the wildlife. Lots of shaded areas and good shows. The staff is very attentive. I liked this more than Miami Metro, but both were good especially if you have children.
