Tropical Sprawl

I hadn't heard of the Gardens until my brother-in-law suggested we try it. He's been before and I didn't hold out much hope of enjoying it considering it was 95 degrees out, but a pleasant tram ride in the shade of many species of tropical trees and a stroll through the gardens left us quite happy that despite all of the urban sprawl, there was a refuge of green on the east coast of Florida. Beautiful gardens. Well kept. Great place.

Scenic drive through Coconut Grove by the way of Old Cutler Highway and you reach the Fairchild Tropical Gardens, a botanical garden specializing in tropical plants, flowers and trees. It is an 83 acre tropical garden with rainforest and a conservatory. There is an admisión charge. Before you reach the Fairchild Tropical Garden you pass by Matheson Hammock Park, a public park with a nice view of the city of Miami and a small beach.
