It was the 1st annual Tahiti Fête competition, which is a Tahitian dance festival for May 24-25. There weren't a lot of competitors, which is understandable since it's the first year. This year's competitors made out like bandits since there wasn't much competition. Some of the 1st place winners in this competition usually do not place in the bigger Tahiti Fête competition in San Jose during the month of July. It will be interesting to see who competes next year, especially since they moved the date away from Memorial weekend.

There were some great vendors who traveled from Tahiti to sell their wares. I bought a beautiful mother of pearl necklace for $40, a mother of pearl belt for $60, a mother of pearl pareu fastener for $10, and a toere drumstick for $30. My friend is planning on competing next year. I'll probably be back to support her if she does compete. The admission price was $15 each day. There was a plate lunch available, chicken teriyaki plate for $6, kalbi plate for $7, and a combo plate with both for $6.50. Each plate included macaroni salad, salad greens, and two scoops of rice. They also had various snack items that I did not buy since I did not want to pay festival prices for food. Drinks cost a bit. I bought a can of Hawaiian Iced Tea for $2.
