Just returned from a great week of scuba diving with Manta Divers. We dove with them on our first trip to Cancun as well - 6 yrs ago and this trip was just as great. The staff was fantastic. We dove with Miguel all week. Gabe took a great video which we will watch over and over again I'm sure. We dove most days in Cancun due to the fab underwater life in the area. Schools of fish which is so great to see. The wreck was probably the best one we've dove. We also dove with Life in the Cenote. Always a treat and yes, Life was our guide 6 yrs ago!!! Thanks John and Mimi and (rondi)!!! Always a pleasure diving with you!

When we booked we asked which dive sites they offered, we told them we had already been to Gran Pin and one other place and that we didn’t want to do any wreck dives. They said they would accommodate something for us, and that they could do all the dives available. The owner-managers were very friendly, and even offered a discount considering we had booked for three days. After paying, it felt like they were upset to have to deal with us. Also, the price we were charged was higher than a package advertised in their fliers that had exactly the same number of dives.

For the first day, they asked us to be there at 8am, they didn’t show up till 8:30, and we didn’t leave untll 9. Their boat “was broke” so they had to borrow one from a different company and we had to go pick up divers from three or four different hotel marinas before finally heading to the dive site, Gran Pin, again. We were told it was the best place considering the weather, but we didn’t see any other boats or divers anywhere close.
It felt like the boat wasn’t big enough for all of the people, but we were lucky it was a nice day at the sea. On the way back, again, we had to stop three or four times to drop every one off. That took over an hour before we started heading back to our marina where our car was.

The next day was a Cenote dive, we had a good dive master (Leif), but we felt we were overcharged. We were told it was because of the transportation and lunch included, even though they knew we where staying in a hotel 10 minutes away from the Cenote and that we had a car.

The third day we waited for 40 minutes because we were “waiting for another client” They hadn’t realized they had agreed to pick him up, and he was waiting for us in his hotel. When the owner saw him out of the hotel waiting for us, he made a racial comment based on his looks, it was incredibly rude and uncomfortable, he used foul language all the time and showed no respect for the Mexican culture. We finally got to the boat, and they told us we were going to do a wreck dive. We said we had asked not to do any wreck dives, but the second choice was Gran Pin, again. They said they couldn’t change the site, because it wasn’t their boat. By that time, it was already around 11 in the morning, and we couldn’t go diving with any other company, so we lost one of our diving days in Cancun. We did get that day refunded, but we had to call them several times before they did it.
We have to say though, that Miguel, the dive master from the first day, was great.

I did my open-water certification the year before in Cancun and was ready to do my advanced certification. The Adventures in Diving program offers both the Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. If you complete any three adventure dives, you can earn your PADI Adventure Diver certification. If you complete your Deep Adventure Dive, Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive, and three Adventure Dives (for a total of five), you can earn your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

We dove at several local reefs in the 50- to 70-foot range. The flora and fish life was very abundant. We also dove a few wrecks, the C55 and the C58. I was unable to get down to the C55 due to strong currents and had a long wait on the surface before being picked up by the boat. It wasn't planned, but it was good experience just the same. I didn't panic!

The C58 was just fantastic. I descended down to about 80 feet to this huge wreck laid out on the bottom. It looks like a freighter, just getting bigger and bigger. There are rays and barracudas swimming around, and then we go inside and navigate through the decks and hallways, through doors and little rooms. There are visible exits, and the ship had been stripped to allow safe penetration by average divers without wreck-diving certification. It was a truly amazing dive.

It did not look like it was going to be a lot of fun, as the ocean was pretty choppy. But the 1,5m swells and my subsequent lurching stomach were soon appeased by the warm blue ocean. While the dive was not spectacular by "big fish" standards, I found the beds of coral and reefs fascinating. We did manage to see some menacing looking barracuda, puffer fish, scorpion fish and a HUGE eel! The DM was wonderfully competent and friendly.

Of course there was still the boat ride back to the pier....
