Moon Palace

The free bus tour to Tulum from the Moon Palace was worth the half day it takes to complete. The ruins are right on the water and offer a breath taking view of the Caribbean ocean. The bus ride is very comfortable and once you get to the site you realize just how amazing this area really is. The place the bus has to park is almost 1/4 of a mile from the entrance to the ruins and you have to pass through a shopping area. I took the time to buy a few things and even had lunch at the Subway restaurant located in this shopping area. There is a giant may pole where people are giving demonstrations and of course there are the vendors who beg you to "come steal my junk". Once you venture to the site you will be glad you made the trip. The walk is long and very hot but there is lots of cool stuff to explore. I found at least 3 iguanas lying in the sun. We ventured down to the beach and took many pictures. Those pictures even ended up on the local news as weather photos they were so cool!

Over all the trip was worth it especially since the moon palace provides it for free. If you pay to go on the trip you wont be disappointed.

Scuba Resort Course

Scuba Resort Course

This is by far one of the best adventures I've ever taken. I signed up for the two-day resort course, which included the basic land instructions, pool time, and an open-water dive on the reef approximately 1 mile east of the resort... and this was just the first day. For the second day, I had opted for the two-tank dive trip to Cozumel.

What you get for the cost of your course: instruction (of course), transportation to the dive sites, and use of the equipment. If you wish to use a wet suit, there is an additional charge. If you opt for the Cozumel trip, you also get transportation (by bus and ferry) to the island of Cozumel and lunch after your dives. There's also a little time to do some shopping.

The instructors are friendly and saftey-conscious. The equipment and boats are clean and in very good condition. I've done this trip twice, and both times my experience has been absolutely perfect.

I had heard of other "divers" that have not had the same luck as I, primarily due in part to their sensitivity on the subject of tipping. Many of the top resorts in the Cancun/Riveria Maya area "all-inclusive", and the gratuity is already included in the price of their vacation. Aqua World does NOT share in this gratuity. My basic rule is this: if I had a good time and was treated well, I throw the guys a bone--20 to 50 pesos for a day trip is chump change!

The other complaint that I've heard about is that the instructors were demeaning and rude to the divers. This can happen when a "diver" does something stupid. Diving can be a very dangerous sport! If you're unsafe, expect the tongue-lashing you deserve and say you're sorry.

Once again, I had a great time diving with Aqua World and will be taking their open-water certification course on my next trip to Cancun.

Since we are absolutely certifiable golf nuts, we were breathlessly anticipating the experience, much touted by the staff and various magazines. As a word of warning, make sure that when you book your tee time, GET A RECEIPT! For some odd reason, one has to book the tee-time through Chaza Travel. They were incompetent. They blatantly moved our tee time without informing us. If we hadn't checked, we never would've known. For 250 a round, I would've expected much better communication. We rented two sets of graphite TaylorMade clubs. They weren't in the greatest shape, but the $30.00 fee was more than reasonable. One could purchase 25 range balls for $3.00. And remember, bring your own balls. It's highway robbery down in Mexico.

The course was in fabulous condition. Since it rained most of the time, we couldn't properly judge the pace of the greens. However, the overall condition was immaculate. There were several sets of tees, so that everyone can play to his/her ability. In evaluating the course, though, I'd say that the scenery was only so-so. There were mosquito armies out there ready to devour you on the first tee if you don't bring bug spray. Our local country club in the Midwest has better scenery. It's basically swampland. Any balls hit into the rough can simply be counted as gone. There is absolutely nothing spectacularly special about this course- at least not for $250.00. They are opening another 9 holes soon- and supposedly the rate then gets hiked up some more. We'd rather head for Pebble Beach- or our local country club.

This is a professional golf course, so that makes golfing there exciting and the course is breathtaking. The prices are reasonable and very much worth it.
