In operation since 1991, the Crescent City Brewhouse
is the only French Quarter microbrewery, but there’s more than just beer here. The atmosphere at the Crescent City Brewhouse is warm, relaxed and festive with live jazz performed nightly by local musicians. The restaurant is quite good if you’re in the mood for some simple American fare like hamburgers or chicken sandwiches (although you can get regional specialties here as well). This brewery cum restaurant is located on the well-touristed stretch between the Riverwalk Marketplace and Jax Brewery (a converted brewery that now houses a mall) not too far from the Hard Rock Café. A bastion of Germanic culture, The Crescent City Brewhouse brews small quantities of a number of tantalizing beers according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 from four natural ingredients: water, malt, hops and yeast. No chemicals are used and all the beer is brewed in-house. The different brews available at Crescent City are as follows: the Pilsner (very high quality variant of the classic style), the Red Stallion (reminiscent of Killian’s), the Black Forest (a valiant attempt to replicate Kostritzer Schwarzbier, but not quite there yet), the Weiss Beer (fair representation of a difficult style) and whatever, the special brew of the month is (worth trying).
