Water Country USA

One of our favorite parks is Water Country USA. This is a 50's themed water park with attractions for any age. We have been visiting the park for the last four years and still enjoy it. The newest addition, Hubba Hubba Highway, is a giant lazy river that allows you to float with or without a life jacket (provided by the park). The fact that there are no tubes in the river make it more enjoyable since you can be as active or passive as you like. You can use a life jacket and become a human bobber, or go without one and chase the kids down the river. The park overall has a great feel to it, maybe because of all the Beach Boys music you hear during the day. As long as you enjoy getting wet, there is something in this park for everyone.

I am not one that usually goes to water parks, but I will always remember the days at this park. My daughter still reminds us of certain rides we went on a month later. Again, we bought a 5-4-1 park pass which I highly recommend. Our condo was less than half a mile from this park, so we would usually hit the park in the afternoon when it got really hot. At this time of year the park was not busy at all, and my daughter and I almost did the entire park attractions in a hour 5-6pm (closing). The park is very clean and well maintained and with an enormous amount of helpful staff. The kids have to wear life vests, but there are plenty around the park free of charge. Lockers are also available (highly recommend) and you get a partial refund when done to spend in the park.

NEEDS: Surf shoes (no flip flops, sneakers, or leather sandals), sun block lotion, towels, and a good set of legs.
Shoes are a must due to walking distances between rides. Feet get wrinkly after a few rides and will get raw if you do not have descent shoes. Pavement can get hot as well. Beware that most rides have long high stairs to climb, so bring good knees.
RIDES WILL BE LISTED SEPARATELY!!!
ENJOY THE PARK!!!

On Saturday, May 29, my husband and I headed off to Water Country USA. We checked prior to leaving SC to see about military discounted tickets, but we were told that we could only buy a discounted ticket on base, and they weren't even sure which bases had tickets. Obviously the base here in Charleston, SC doesn't have tickets for a water park in Virginia.

We arrived at the ticketing booths around 10:30am where the lines were already forming. We waited about 15 minutes to purchase our tickets and then headed off to the locker rooms to change into our swimsuits. Locker rentals run roughly $10/day. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

The morning started off rather chilly, at least by my standards. I didn't want to ride any slides right away, so we headed off to the Hubba Hubba Highway. This really was a lot of fun . . .just floating along. We rode a few slides afterwards and then had a ridiculously overpriced lunch of hotdogs and fries. Add in a drink and the total was somewhere around $14. Typical of theme parks, I know, but I still find it atrocious to pay so much for mediocre food at best.

We had a rather pleasant day, and this was a decent water park. It is certainly not a Blizzard Beach a la Disney by any means, but a good quality place anyhow.

This was the most fun we had on our 17-day trip. We wished we would have gone earlier in the trip, so that we could have gone numerous times. I was impressed by how friendly and polite everyone was. If you take a Pepsi can, you get a yearly pass for the price of one day admission.

Water Country is a great water park for all ages. You can get wet and stay wet for as long as you like, and you don't even have to go on any rides. If you want to "go to the beach", there is a wave pool that runs every so often. If you want to lounge in the lazy river, it goes around in a circle, and you can simply stay in your tube. If you enjoy the rush of an amusement park ride but want to stay wet, there are plenty of downhill rides for your to enjoy! Most rides are for one or two people, but Big Daddy Falls will get you wet with more people in your tube!
