The museum is layed out in chronological order, beginning the American Revolution. As you move through the museum, you can see how transportation came to be a logistical neccessary for the military. Technological advances brought about a large assortment of vehicles which allowed for the faster deployment of troops.
Outside the museum are a number of planes, tanks, and trains that had been used in the past by the military. And if you drive down to the river you can see the battleships which are currently retired, but which could be called up for active duty if needed.
